2nd Grade lesson sample
At Millersville I learned how to implement a Kodaly based method into my everyday teaching by utilizing folk songs and the concepts in them to teach music literacy. The Houlahan-Tacka Method takes this Kodaly approach and organizes it into a lesson sequence of Development (Kinesthetic, Aural, and Visual) and Practice (Reading, Writing, and Improvisation). In the following example my 2nd Grade classroom is developing a visual awareness of the "Do Pentatonic Scale" and practicing four 16th notes with improvisation.

6th Grade: Middle School Lesson
During my student teaching experience I was given the opportunity to design and implement a music curriculum for 6th and 7th grade general music a ELCO Middle School. My instruction always worked toward the students ability to read, write ,and preform music as the end goal. The following lesson has students composing a rap that utilizes known rhythms learned earlier in the semester.
